  Decision On Pakistan’s Election Delayed January 2008

Pakistan Waits For Date Of Elections in 2008

After significant turmoil following the assasination of Benazir Bhutto, the Election Commission of Pakistan said a decision on whether to delay parliamentary elections would be made on Wednesday.

Elections are currently scheduled for January 8, but it seems likely the Pakistani Government will hold elections after the Muslim month of Muharram, in early February.

Election offices in 13 districts of Benazir Bhutto’s own Sindh province, have been destroyed according to Government officials.
