Chris Cornell Beyond The Audioslave Experiment
Thank God Chris Cornell left Audioslave.
The artists music styles were never matched from the beginning.
The first Audioslave album was a hash attempt at rock fusion, and sounded like Cornell & the band worked entirely separately in regard to lyrics and music composition.
At times even the powereful voice of Cornell seemed to be struggling with the music the ‘rage’ band produced.
And Tom Morello. Tom Morello. Tut tut.
The once unmistakable signature guitarists music is now unmistakable, but for a completely different reason.
It sucks.
Has Tom taken to playing a cats belly with a violin bow?
I refer to his scratchy guitar solos.
The first time I heard the Audioslave song “Virus”, and the guitar lead break, I thought: “Hey, that’s nice & original”.
(Even though it didn’t seem to fit, I liked the effect.)
However the effect is hard to appreciate when Morello plays this style in virtually every song.
No wonder Cornell left the band.
He’s clearly a class above.
Chris Cornell’s lyrical genius, and unmistakable voice, was really the only feather in the Audioslave cap.
All the best Chris, for the new music!
