Tragic floods in Indonesia kills dozens in Aceh and Sumatra

Floods in Indonesia

Heavy rain triggered flash floods and landslides in Indonesia just marking the two year anniversary of the Tsunami disaster in Asia.

Aceh and North Sumatra are the worst affected districts, where residents have been left stranded on higher ground as the flood has destroyed villages.

The death toll has reached 100 and is expected to rise as there are still thousands of people are reported missing. Emergency supplies, such as blankets, tents and food have been sent as well as soldiers to help Indonesia.

Police, soldiers and volunteers are still pulling bodies out of the wreckages and mud thirty six hours after the flood hit. It has been said that over 2500 buildings have been destroyed and the death toll is expected to rise when the rubble from the buildings is cleared.

Flooding in Indonesia in an annual problem. This can also be added to the fact that the countries coastlines are exposed due to illegal logging which takes place in Indonesia.
