Food Aid Theft Worsens Effect of Killer Drought in Kenya - Corrupt Officials Blamed

Corrupt Officials have been blamed for the theft of food aid to feed the millions left starving from the latest drought that has caused a lack of rainfall for the past three years.

President Mwai Kibaki has declared a national disaster in Kenya and asked for support to feed Kenya’s starving millions.

On the subject, The Daily Nation Newspaper said in Saturday’s editorial:

“Nothing demonstrates the shamelessness of corruption in our society more than the fact that those selling the food aid did not even bother to remove the ‘Government of Kenya relief - not for sale’ labels on the bags.”

The stealing of aid by officials is a despicable and shameful act, causing only further suffering to the millions affecteds throughout the African region.
