Baby Born on Flight to Hospital
A Northland couple welcomed their baby daughter into the world in nothing other than up in the air in a rescue helicopter.
Loren Haisley the pilot of the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance, was called out yesterday to collect a woman from Whitianga. She had gone into labour but an irregular fetal heartbeat had been detected.
She was flown to Waikato Hospital along with the child’s father and the Midwife. Mr Haisley was told the birth was imminent so he began to land in a paddock south of Mill Creek but the baby was born about 30 seconds before touchdown.
