One of New Zealands mobile phone company Vodafone has been told off for advertisments that have been misleading by the Advertising Standards Complaints Board.
The decision was released today, complaint against Vodafone was held up by the board. The Board determinded both companies were in breah of the truthful presentation rule of the Advertising Code of Ethics.
The complaint delt with an advertisment advertising Vodafone’s “Bestmate” plan. The advertisment showed people talking to a miniture best friend which was held like a mobile phone.
The ad told customers they could talk for aslong as they could call, video or text their best mate “all you like for $6 a month”
The offer only applied to pre paid phones, but this was no-where to be seen or heard in the advertisment. Vodafone argued that the advertisment urged people to go to the website and there is said the terms and conditions.
The board found the advertising to be misleading, because the conditions should have been clearly specified on the advertisiment. The board also said “it was not sufficient for tye consumer to have to seek information through other channels”.
