College Student Expelled For Having a Tattoo
An Auckland Mother is intending to comlain to the Ministry of Education this week because her son was expelled for having a tattoo.
Zavier Bygrave was expelled from Sacred Heart College in Glenn Innes for having a tattoo of Tupac- a late rapper. Bygrave had said that he would cover is tattoo up with a long sleeved shirt, but the School still expelled him.
The tattoo goes from the elbow down to the wrist and was a $300 christmas present from his mother Cindy Bygrave.
Cindy said that niether her or her son knew it was against the rules to have a tattoo at SHC. The Catholic school makes exceptions for cultural, religious and health reasons.
She said her complaint to the ministry would be on the basis that his son’s expulsion was discriminatory and breached his human right.
Principal Jim Dale said expulsion was unavoidable because the tattoo was “highly inappropriate”.
