Pope Speaks Out Against ‘Designer Babies’
In Rome today Pope Benedict condemned genetic engineering and other scientific practises that allow people to choose ‘designer babies’ by screening them for defects.
The Pope gave a speech to the Pontifical Academy for Life, a Church body of experts. In the speech he attacked the widespread use of medical testing that can detect diseases and inherited disorders in embryos. He also attached artificial insemination.
The Pope Said In developed countries, there is a growing interest for the most sophisticated biotechnological research to introduce subtle and extensive eugenics methods in the obsessive search for the ‘perfect child’.
