Central Government Gives Local Bodies Thumbs Up To Screw Auckland Motorists Again

Although central Government gets plenty of tax from fuel, it seems local governments are being told to fund roading themselves.

In an announcement thought to form part of the Government’s Budget, the Auckland region will be given the go-ahead to introduce a fuel tax of 10c a litre.

Infuriating enough, it gets worse.  A third of the rise - 3.5c - will pay for the rail electrification project, which fits well with the Government’s climate change ambitions.

Why is this Government telling us it can’t afford more roading, Police, Nurses and tac cuts when it is sitting on the single biggest surplus ever?

Ahh but “inflationary pressure is high” they tell us…. of course it has nothing to do with inflated Government spending, aye?

To extract more money from Motorists to pay for services they won’t use (show me where the trains can cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge!), is extortion.
