The Kiwi Employee Revolution and Grass Is Greener

The Kiwi Employee Revolution and Grass Is Greener

More New Zealand Rhetoric Regarding The Local Economy and Mass Exodus.

Geez, what a great title.  So I get sick & tired of hearing about the Kiwi dream.  That is, to move across the ditch to Auzzie.

The more I hear how great Australia is as an economic comparison to New Zealand, the more I cringe.

Whilst Australia may at present, offer some employees slightly better wages, and a few extra holidays, it can be much harder for businesses to operate in Australia with compliance requirements far greater than New Zealand.

And let’s face it, anyone that really has a dream of “getting ahead” probably won’t be an employee forever.

Yet, hundreds and thoudsand of Kiwi’s are leaving New Zealand in search of better employment options.

I would liken New Zealand as the Wild West in comparison to Australia for business.

Opportunities are literally endless with many industries still un-tapped by the large corporates.  Unlike countries such as Britan, the US, and yes, even Australia)

Combine this with comparitavely (say, to Australia) low compliance requirements and cost, and you have a recipie for successful business.

Ok, so the New Zealand Government is not especially fond of small business (did you know that a Social Welfare Beneficiary or a newly released convict has more chance of getting a grant for a business than a regular person), but that doesn’t mean you can’t make money!

Many businesses can quickly market their products in New Zealand because of less competition, and even cost of advertising.  This cannot be said for larger markets even like Australia.

Even perhaps being a target for a buy-out from a large overseas corporate is not out of the question as world markets start to discover and enter New Zealand business.

Personally, I see this as a far more ideal situation than a country such as Scotland or Ireland, where small enterprise is virtually non-existant and those who might otherwise have had small businesses of their own are reduced to menial employment such as factory work.

This can happen when an industry is dominated by large corporates.  The corporates are then in a position to start to make rules for that industry and those who might enter it, in consultation with local or central government.

What happens thereafter, is establishment of draconian rules and huge compliance costs, with the spcific intention of preventing others entering the marketplace.

Small business ceases to exist where large corporates are allowed make the rules and  impose huge compliance cost for start up.

The more employees a country has means less business numbers, resulting in corporates also being in control of the majority of jobs.
