So there’s been some strange events unfold in little ‘ole NZ over the last week.

Local headlines read something along the lines of “Anti-Terror Raids”.  In little ‘ole NZ?

You bet. On Monday 15th October, in a small town in New Zealand called “Ruatoki”, armed police set up road blocks, stormed houses and arrested a number of people of suspected involvement in a guerilla camp.

Amongst the allegations, were those of a para-military camp operating in the local valley and napalm being detonated.

This operation was conducted under the new Supression of Terrorism Act, and also the Firearms Act.

A number of charges have been laid agianst those arrested including charges of possesion of military style weapons.

Local activists are claiming the Police action was a tad harsh and racial orientated, whereas authorities seem to be indicating that the action was preemptive and more serious charges could be laid.

It’s difficult to get clear facts at this stage, particularly as the media seem to frenzy upon anything that contains the terms “terrorism”, or “racial discrimination”.

What’s weird to me, (and I confess to being no expert) is that I notice no Army or SAS presence in these raids.  Surely if some form of “terrorist” threat existed, there would have been more than just Police and Armed Offenders Squad.

Let’s hope the cops have got some traction on this issue, because I would imagine hell to pay if they haven’t.
