Halloween & Guy Fawkes Traditions in New Zealand.
Halloween in New Zealand is a tacky adopted tradition Kiwi’s have seemingly become more interested in recently.
OK, OK, accuse of being Ebenezer Scrooge…. bah humbug!
Halloween is tacky in NZ for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the close occurance to the even more ridiculous Guy Fawkes tradition.
I can imaginge the Americans having a laugh at us celebrating Guy Fawkes in this modern age of “terrorism”.
To continue to celebrate that which was essentially a terrorist plot, is a tad bizzare.

So we all get together and let off fireworks on November 5th to celebrate this event.
The equivalent, I guess for Americans, would be to name a day “Bin Laden”, and celebrate the smashing of planes into buildings… Equally as stupid as the Guy Fawkes tradition.
Halloween looks cool in the American movies. The community get together, and deck out the area with candles, lanterns and pumpkins etc.
Unfortunatley for us here in New Zealand. Halloween falls at the beginning of Summer, hence it remains light up intil around 9PM…
Not the scariest of backdrops for a Halloween setting when the kids are walking around in Mum’s white sheets in broad daylight!
