Google Search Results Evolving
Like many who ponder the ways of Google, I’m often perplexed at how results are displayed, and retrieved.
For example, once upon a time ( when the internet was a little newer), if you were to type in the search term “the” into Google, you would have returned a results of many, many bilions of results of web pages indexed containing that term.
Not so long ago, the same search only resulted in many millions of results.
So far, far less than the previous time. Presumably what was happening was the Google was culling some of the unnecessary results, particulalry for a borad search term like the word “the”.
However recently I’ve noticed that a search on the word “the” returns a result of over 5.6 Billion results. Ok, so this is the accumulation of newer websites indexed in the time passed between the two tests.
So I wondered, how many results would be returned with a search on the single letter ‘e’.
Surely one would reason that far more websites would be indexed by Google with the letter “e”, than the word “the”. You’d think so, wouldn’t you?
A search on the letter “e” only returns around 3.5 billion results. Go figure!
