Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Back In Power.
Hugo Chavez’s political party MVR and Alliance Partners have won all the seats in parliament.
Amazingly, it seems that oppostion parties had dropped out of the elections due to what they refer to as “bias” by the electoral authorities.
This left Hugo Chavez’s political party with 114 out of 167 seats in parliament- clearly a majority.
Does this not pose serious questions regarding the true nature of democracy in Venezuela that has had democratic elections since 1959?
If so, I then have to wonder what is in store for Venezuela and the future…
Venezuela is a country that relies hugely on it’s independence in petroleum sector.
The petroleum business accounts for roughly one-third of Venezuela’s GDP, around 80% of export earnings, so you can imagine Venezuela’s government has a close eye on rising world oil and petroleum costs.
The country has had its share of problems, most recently has been in depression between 2002 - 2004, with activity picking up in mid 2004.
How does a country have depression, does it wake up one morning and decide it doesn’t want to get out of bed?
Despite money problems and boder drug issues, the country remains a popular tourist spot.

Venezuela is a former Spanish colony and geographically it is the most Caribbean country of South America, with over 600 + islands.
It has been claimed that Christopher Columbus was so enthralled by Venezuela’s landscape, when arriving to its coast in 1498, that he referred to the land as Tierra de Gracia (Land of Grace), which has become the countrys nickname.
