There is little doubt that the access to broadband gives a business significant advantages over those that have dial up (or less).

Invoices can be sent out at the touch of a button, software update and email downloads happen quickly, and of course no phone line are tied up.

Some businesses are even using he services of Skype or MSN Messanger or ICQ to reduce communication expenses.

In the home where multiple computers are now as common as multiple TV sets, Broadband allows everybody in the faimly to have a permanent internet connection.

Now, those in the IT sector at this point wil go …dahhh….you’re only stating the obvious uses.

However, what lies ahead for the utilisation of broadband for both the consumer and retailer?

In just a short time, that same cable that brings a broadband connection to your home will also be reponsible for for your “phone” line, paid television channels, and security. Many countries have this already.

Can you imagine a world for retailers where they can advertise their products directly to the consumer on the Television screen. If the consumer wishes to purchase, they simply point the remote at the TV.

Your account is already recorded as is your address. With the push of a button you can pay the supplier directly and have the goods on their way to you.

Microsoft has been positioning themselves in this market for sometime to make this technology available to the public through the xbox product. Of course the xbox will allow you to connect to the internet, make downloads through a TV type remote.

Companies such as Skype have begun positioning themselves in the telecommunication market, enabling millions of customers worldwide to dial eachother and talk for free.

One of the large American television networks recently announced plans to enable consumers to download episodes of hit shows for around $1 each.

These types of services have only become avaiable due to the broadband prodcut. For telecommuncation companies, data service is where the future revenue is.
