A group of former cosmonauts and astronauts are warning that atleast one of the asteriods that have already been identified in outer space is on a path that could indeed see it colliding with Earth in 2036.

The United Nations will soon be asked to take on a mission to save the Earth. Work should begin now in order to save humankind from this asteroids and also others. It will be presented to the United Nations in 2009.

“You have to act when things look like they are going to happen - if you wait until you know for certain, it’s too late,” Dr Russell Schweickart, who was an astronaut aboard the Apollo 9 and told a conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Francisco.
