Robotic Cars Ready to Hit the Highways

Engineers at Stanford University plan to have the worlds first robotic car on the road in less than a year.

The car, which is a Volkswagen Passat wagon dubbed Junior. This car in Stanford newest competitor in a high stakes road race, which is sponsored by the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency, the US Department of Defence’s research and development arm.

The Stanford car will compete in the DARPA Urban Challenge, which the robotic cars will have to drive in a mock city environment. The cars must navigate traffic, merge, aviod obsticles, transverse busy intersections and the hardest one of all, determine who has right of way.

Milkshakes May Help People To Loose Weight

A scientist at Massey University is testing the theory that diary products are more filling than carbohydrates and fats. If proven, milkshakes could be very beneficial to weightloss.

The scientist, PhD student Sylvia Chung, wants to get 50 people to volunteer to drink special milkshakes as a part of her research on Satiety, which is the feeling of being full after eating.

Ms Chung said “The popularity of high-protein diets has sparked public interest in the relationship between protein and weight loss”.

She also added “Dairy product consumption has been associated with the maintenance of healthy body weight in humans”.



Summer- silly time of year to educate

“Silly” Time Of Year To Teach Students

According to principal’s Summer and school do not go together. The first school term is already underway, and again principals are raising the question of why school is on in the hottest time of the year.

Principals Federation president Judy Hanna says “it would make more sense to have a short break at Christmas, and a longer holiday around now”.

She also says it is a silly time of year to be trying to teach a classroom full of sweaty pupils.
Judy Hanna says uniforms are not conducive to the weather and students do not learn very well when they are overheated.

She says it would be better to start the school year in March.
